Putting Food on the Table: How We Are Standing by Families in Egbeda and Ona-Ara

At the Gbenga Obilade’s Foundation, we believe no family should ever go to sleep worrying about where their next meal will come from. Yet, as the price of everyday food continues to rise, simply buying groceries has become a heavy burden for far too many parents in our communities.

When food prices go up, families are forced to make painful choices between buying food and paying for medication, rent, or basic school needs. That is why our Food Bank Programme steps in every three months to offer real, hands-on help directly to the homes that need it most across Egbeda, Ona-Ara, and surrounding neighborhoods.

Why We Stepped In

Walk through our neighborhoods, and you will see hardworking families doing everything they can to get by. But with the cost of living skyrocketing, many find that their income just isn’t enough to cover the basics anymore.

We created the Food Bank Programme to give these families breathing room. We don’t just want to hand out relief once and walk away. Our goal is to stay present, returning every quarter so mothers and fathers know they have a safety net they can count on.

How Help Reaches the Right Doors

o make sure support goes to the people who truly need it, we don’t work from a distance. We work hand-in-hand with the community itself:

What This Means for Our Families

When a family receives a food package, the impact goes far deeper than a meal.
It means a mother can take the money she would have spent on rice and use it to keep her children in school. It means an elderly parent doesn’t have to skip meals to afford medicine. It brings immediate relief to household budgets, but more than that, it brings peace of mind and dignity.

Showing up every three months lets our neighbours know they are not forgotten. It builds real trust, strengthens our bond with the community, and gives families the steady support they needto keep standing tall.

Looking Forward

The Food Bank Programme is at the heart of what we do at the Gbenga Obilade’s Foundation. As we prepare for our next distribution, we are working hard to reach even more homes, build stronger connections, and make sure that no family in our community has to face hard times alone.
